Since the beginning, TradeMutt has been focused on using funky workwear to start conversations about mental health on worksites around the country. However, as we continued to grow we noticed an increasing trend of people in our community wearing their TradeMutt workshirts on the weekend. Whether it was to the pub, the beach or to a BBQ, photos of these legends proudly starting conversations outside of work, with family members and friends who weren’t blue-collar workers got us thinking about all the opportunities for conversation that exist when we are off the clock.
It seemed that the solution to opening up the mental health dialogue even further was staring us in the face. We needed to create a range of stylish clothing that could be worn by anyone who resonated with our cause, while still maintaining the signature conversation starting appeal and spirit of the classic TradeMutt workwear prints.
Two tradies at the helm of a fashion brand, what could go wrong?
Luckily, we had the help of our TradeMutt design team who we knew would have an eye for what garments would be essential for winding down and starting conversations around the pool during the Australian summer. They didn’t disappoint and before we knew it the Flaming Galah, Wildflower and Electrikool prints were born.
But this was just the beginning. Over the last few months our design and production team have worked tirelessly drawing graphics and picking fabrics, buttons, stitching and labelling to bring you the hottest look of the season.
All of this hard work meant that receiving final samples of the finished products was a big day at TradeMutt HQ and a massive achievement for the team. However, we knew that there was still a lot of work to do before we could unleash these bad boys on the world. We needed to figure out how we to do these eye-catching garments justice on camera and how could to best relay the vison we had for this collection by showing everyone that life couldn’t all be work and no play.
Many discussions were had around the office about where we should have the photoshoot, but when we saw the Ventura Beach Motel, we knew it was perfect. The colours of the building suited the retro Australiana vison we wanted and complemented the colour palate of the collection perfectly, while the unmissable, neon “Ventura” sign outside was a way for us to pay homage to one of our most popular workwear prints and to the journey of the brand.
The day of the photoshoot was filled with excitement but with three new prints and four new t-shirts to shoot, we knew we were in for a big day. Thankfully, we had a ragtag team of professional, non-professional models on our side to get the job done. To name just few of the crew that were on set and helped make this collection look so good, we had Jimmy and Tam from The Block, these two have been some of TradeMutt’s most public supporters in 2020 by sporting our workwear on the show whenever they got the chance. We were also stoked to have Redcliffe Dolphins player, Jayden Nikorima on board as he is passionate about the topic of mental health due to his own challenges in the past.
We are so proud that we have been able to get this collection out to our community in time for the silly season, which is a time of year where we all deserve to chuck on pair of boardies and a pool shirt to wind down but also when we need to chat the most. So, we hope that you guys have as much fun wearing and starting conversations in this collection as we did bringing to you and we can’t wait to see the photos coming in.
